According to Daily Mail online, It’s one of those statistics where the more you try to wrap your head around it, the more mind-boggling it becomes.

Lionel Messi has scored 4.39 per cent of the goals in Barcelona’s 117-year history; since 1899, almost one in every 20 was by the 28-year-old Argentinian.

Wednesday was typical, then, as Messi bagged a brace against Sporting Gijon, passing the 300 mark in La Liga and scoring the 10,000th goal in Barcelona’s history.

It’s not his first milestone and won’t be the last, as it came six years after he scored the club’s 9,000th against Almeria in March 2010.

Since then, Barca have won four La Liga titles, the Champions League twice, two Copa del Reys, three Spanish Super Cups, two Club World Cups and a pair of European Super Cups – all with the magician that is Messi.

So the 9,000th and 10,000th went his way and he’s in good company, given Diego Maradona scored their 6,000th in 1983 and Michael Laudrup got their 7,000th in 1993 too.
