According to ESPN, Real Madrid left-back Marcelo has surprisingly been included in the travelling squad for Wednesday's Champions League round-of-16 first leg at Roma, but Gareth Bale remains sidelined with his calf problem.

Marcelo was expected to be out for a couple of weeks after suffering a painful shoulder injury in Madrid's 2-1 win at Granada on Feb. 7, but the Brazil international has returned to training and is now an option to start the game at the Stadio Olimpico.

When Bale picked up his calf problem against Sporting Gijon on Jan. 17 it was hoped he would be fine for the trip to Italy, however coach Zinedine Zidane admitted last weekend that the Wales international was not feeling ready to return, and there was no need to take risks.

The naming of Madrid's 20 man travelling party to the Italian capital came in a short statement which also confirmed that Portugal centre-back Pepe remained unavailable with his foot issue.
