According to CaughtOffside.com, Jose Mourinho will begin a drastic squad upheaval at Manchester United by selling midfielders Juan Mata and Marouane Fellaini, according to the Daily Mail.

The Daily Mail reports that the former Chelsea manager is in advanced talks to take over from Louis van Gaal in the summer, and is already planning for the role.

The Special One gave United chief-executive Ed Woodward instruction to sell the pair, who cost a combined £64m, at a recent meeting, the Daily Mail adds.

Spanish playmaker Mata was also axed by Mourinho upon his return to Chelsea in 2013, despite having been voted to the PFA Team of the Year the previous season.

He has been one of United’s most consistently solid performers under Van Gaal, but is not well suited to the demands that Mourinho places on his attacking midfielders.

Belgian powerhouse Fellaini is another who does not fit into Mourinho’s plans and will be shown the exit door if the Portuguese takes charge, according to the Daily Mail.

The 28-year-old was the first major signing of the post-Sir Alex Ferguson era, but has struggled to make a significant impact or nail down a defined position in the side.

The Daily Mail adds that Mourinho will then be given a big pot of money to improve the squad as United aim to claw back ground on the likes of Manchester City and Arsenal.
