Book 'Written By Serial Killer Removed on Amazon

Robert Pickton was convicted of six counts of murder in 2007 over the disappearance of dozens of sex workers in Vancouver.

A book apparently written by a serial killer has been removed from Amazon's website after protests by British Columbia authorities.

Outskirts Press, which published the book, issued a statement saying it had asked Amazon to remove the book.

It said: "Outskirts Press apologises to the families of the victims for any additional heartache this may have caused."

Robert Pickton, 66, was convicted in 2007 of six counts of second-degree murder and jailed for life.

He killed the women, who were sex workers, at his pig farm and fed some of their remains to his pigs.

On Monday, his 144-page memoir titled Pickton: In His Own Words, was no longer available from the retailer's website in Canada.

In the book, Pickton claimed he was innocent and had been framed by the police over the killings, according to the Toronto Sun.

More than 50,000 people signed a petition calling for the book to be withdrawn to respect "the families who were affected by the horrible crimes of this predator... and who are still going through their healing processes".

Ralph Goodale, Canadian Public Safety Minister, told Parliament that the Correctional Service of Canada is investigating how the manuscript was smuggled out of Kent Institution maximum security prison near Agassiz, British Columbia.

Christy Clark, British Columbia Premier, told a news conference: "I am at a loss for words. To think about the pain that he's prepared to willingly cause all of the families of those people who he murdered.

"I have trouble understanding it and I think people will want to know that their government is doing everything it can to want to stop him from profiting from this at the very least."

There is no confirmation that Pickton actually wrote the book, but a statement from British Columbia Solicitor General Mike Morris said the province would explore every means to prevent him from profiting.

Twenty other charges of first-degree murder were stayed against Pickton at his trial.

He picked up his victims from Vancouver's Downtown Eastside and lured them to his muddy rubbish-strewn farm with promises of money, alcohol and drugs, before killing them.

Cristiano Ronaldo first athlete to pass 200 million social media followers

According to Espn online, Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo has become the first athlete to surpass 200 million followers on social media.

Ronaldo has 109.7 million followers on Facebook, 49.6 million on Instagram and 40.7 million on Twitter.

The Portugal international crossed the 200 million threshold on Tuesday, when his combined total reached 200,058,494, according to social media tracking database Hookit.com.

Ronaldo might trail rival Lionel Messi in Ballon d'Or trophies, but he's easily winning the social battle. Messi has 120.8 million followers, though he doesn't have a Twitter account.

Ronaldo's numbers put him past the combined total of basketball stars LeBron James, Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, Kevin Durant and Steph Curry, who combine to garner 187 million.

In 2015, Ronaldo garnered 41.8 million new followers, with nearly three-quarters of those coming on Instagram. He averages 135,000 new followers a day, according to Hookit.

Aces look to break Downs curse

According to SuperSport news online, Mpumalanga Black Aces will need to break a 22 year curse away to Mamelodi Sundowns at the Lucas Moripe Stadium in Atteridgeville on Wednesday evening, if they are to keep their Absa Premiership title chances alive.

Kick-off is at 7:30 pm.

The Brazilians have not lost a home league match to their title rivals since 1994 and having yet to taste defeat on home soil this season, 'Downs will be confident of extending their streak.

Pitso Mosimane's men saw their six game winning run come to an end with a goalless draw against Golden Arrows this past weekend, but a 16-game unbeaten run still see's them top the standings by eight points - 10 points better off than Aces with 10 rounds remaining.

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane was quoted saying:

"It’s a big game because Aces are close to us,” said Mosimane who is eager for his side to enhance their gap atop the standings.

"If we win the game, it gives us a little bit of space, a breather if you know what I am trying to say.”

"The Aces game is very important - as long as they don’t get more points than us, it’s okay. Sometimes you mustn't worry that you need win, we have won enough not to complain ... we have won enough, we have done very well.”

Despite their 3-1 loss to Orlando Pirates last time out ,Muhsin Ertugral, remains upbeat and believes a win in midweek will keep their hopes of a first Absa Premiership title alive.

Muhsin Ertugral was quoted saying:

"If Sundowns lose against us the race will be open,” the AmaZayoni boss said.

“Kaizer Chiefs are playing fantastic football: the way they played against SuperSport United was great. We are all playing each other in the top five so anything can still happen.

“I don’t see a one-horse race. Sundowns have to play Chicken Inn FC and SuperSport and they play us in between, so it’s a tough challenge.

Ertugral admits the loss to Pirates was their worst display of the season: "We did very well until now, but the game against Pirates was the worst game we had."

In head-to-head stats, Aces and Sundowns have met in 34 league matches since 1985.

The Brazilians have 23 wins compared to six for AmaZayoni, while five matches have been drawn.

Sundowns have won 14 of their 17 home matches against Aces, suffering two defeats in the process.

When the teams met earlier this season, AmaZayoni claimed a 1-0 home win thanks to a goal from Eddie Ngalo; who is suspended for the upcoming clash.

Unfulfilled Football Dreams by Cristiano Ronaldo

Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo has won almost everything there is to win in the game, but he has now revealed football dreams of his that remain unfulfilled.

The Portuguese has lifted 16 club trophies with Manchester United (nine) and Real Madrid (seven), but is yet to win silverware with his country.

"I still have a lot of aims to achieve," he told Sacoor Brothers.

"To win more and more titles, to continue a career that is as successful as possible, to win a trophy for Portugal, as I've said a few times.

"In fact, that would make me really happy.

"These are normal dreams for a young man who still dreams of playing football for a few more years."

Ronaldo is facing another possible trophyless season with Los Blancos as they are now nine points behind leaders FC Barcelona in the race for the LaLiga title.

With the club already being disqualified from the Copa del Rey, the UEFA Champions League is the only trophy the Spanish giants can realistically aim for this campaign.

Former Bafana Bafana striker now a prison warder

Former Bafana Bafana striker Lungisani Ndlela, is now making a living a prison warder in Mpumalanga.

His friends have commended him, according to the newspaper, Daily Sun.

“Lungi has done well for himself. At least he’s got an income, unlike other former soccer stars who prefer to live on handouts,” one of Ndlela’s friends told the newspaper.

Another friend added: “Lungi is popular in prison as people still recognise him. He’s jolly but takes his job seriously.”

Barcelona may regret their decision to sell Alexis Sánchez after tonight

According to Squawka news online, Arsenal will face Barcelona and the fearsome triumvirate of Lionel Messi, Luis Suárez and Neymar on Tuesday evening, but to form the most dangerous frontline, sacrifices have to be made.

To make way for Suárez in the summer of 2014, Alexis Sánchez had to leave the Camp Nou. Made available as it became clearer that Suárez would be swapping Arsenal for Barcelona, Alexis had to search for a new club. Arsenal were the lucky club to profit.

And so it played out. Barcelona, as expected, were proven right to sell the Chilean star. Luis Suárez fitted into the Spanish giants’ team perfectly, with his intelligent and unselfish play helping to bring the best out of Neymar and Messi at the same time. It inspired the Catalan club to an historic treble, as they became the first club in European football to claim the treble a second time.

Meanwhile in London, Alexis had settled in seamlessly and inspired Arsenal to another FA Cup win. It didn’t take long for him to start performing for the Gunners, and an incredible volley against Manchester City really announced him to the Premier League. With injuries to Theo Walcott, Mesut Özil and Olivier Giroud the onus was on Alexis to deliver, and it didn’t faze him one bit.

Cristiano Ronaldo open to a career in acting once Real Madrid star's playing days end

According to Daily Mail, After starring in a documentary made about his life last year, Cristiano Ronaldo has admitted he would like to learn more about acting after his days as a player come to an end.

The Real Madrid forward is currently spearheading his team's Champions League charge under Zinedine Zidane but that has not stopped him from considering his life after football.

Cristiano Ronaldo was quoted saying:
'I would like to learn being surrounded by good actors because only then will I learn since it is an area I do not control because it has nothing to do with football,' he told Sacoor Brothers.

'Why not? It's not my goal at the moment, but I have had some invitations.

'Do not close the doors because it is an area which I like.'

The age of 31 is where some players begin to approach the twilight of their careers.

The Soil announces new vocalist

It’s been a startling process but the The Soil, SA’s most loved a capella band, has finally found their female vocalist to take over from Buhle.

Following the announcement in January 2016 that Buhle Mda, the group’s only female vocalist will be taking a break from performing, The Soil held auditions for a female vocalist to join the group from March 2016.

The search was open to all female vocalists who believed they had what it took to be a part of the cheeky yet confidently urbane band.

Interested vocalists were encouraged to visit The Soil’s Facebook page and submit their audition videos. 10 videos were then selected from this platform and 10 female vocalists were invited to audition live at The Native Rhythms Productions offices over the weekend.

After a full day of various performances and interaction with the band, 20-year-old Theo Matshoba from Dobsonville, Soweto got the ultimate prize.

“More than anything, I am shocked because the ladies there were really talented. Buhle’s shoes are really huge to fill but I am not trying to be her, I just want to make her and the group proud”, said Theo.

Native Rhythms MDs, Velile & Sipho Sithole said they would ensure that Theo still carries on with her studies and will co-ordinate performances with her school time table.

Life-saving app

Local Durban crime fighters have gone high-tech, developing a smartphone app that could save your life.

Pioneers of the Dawncliffe Neighbourhood Watch, Mike Myers and former policeman Paul Stone, believe they have identified the major pitfalls of reporting an emergency.

"Simply put, people are not prepared for emergencies. They panic and don’t know who to call and in most cases they don't have the numbers readily available. Added to this situation is that during an emergency they are not in a position to make the phone call and almost always not in a position to make any follow up calls to find out where their help is," Myers said in an interview with News24.

The app, dubbed MOBI-CLAW, has already notched up a success in the first phase of its development after it's launch on February 1.

"Two weeks ago, we had an incident on the N3 highway near the Pavilion where a woman had run out of petrol. She phoned her son and as he arrived with petrol he saw a man attacking her in her car."

"He pressed the panic and we managed to get everyone there and we had an arrest made in 13 minutes from the time the panic was pressed," he said.

"By a simple touch of a button your mobile phone sends an emergency report to MOBI-CLAW control which includes your current location. Trained members then handle your emergency by co-ordinating first responders to get to you quickly," Myers said, adding that they had nearly 700 signed-up members.

Myers said that the application used the phone’s GPS to track your location, allowing those rushing to the emergency to find the potential victim.

"If you are kidnapped in a hijacking or your phone is stolen during a crime, we will be able follow your phone as long as it remains on. MOBI-CLAW will also handle your medical emergency reporting and your profile will include all your necessary medical data so that we can furnish this to any medical staff who are attending to you," he said.

"What makes our app different is that it is not just another mobile panic button, our app is merely a tool for our business, our business is handling your emergency from the time you press the panic button to the time we receive on authority that your emergency is under control."

The service costs per phone are: R100 registration and R45 monthly subscription, and the app is available from www.mobi-claw.com.

Pitso Mosimane unconcerned by dropped points ahead of Black Aces clash

According to kickOff Online Magazine, Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane is wary of his side’s upcoming clash with Mpumalanga Black Aces, yet feels Downs are in a good-enough position not too be too concerned.

The Brazilians dropped two valuable points in their goalless draw against Golden Arrows on Saturday, allowing rivals Bidvest Wits to close the gap at the top to seven points.

Wednesday’s opponents Black aces are a further three points behind in fourth, and ‘Jingles’ is hoping victory will give the club a bit more breathing space in front of the chasing pack.

Pitso Mosimane was quoted saying:

"It’s a big game because Aces are close to us,” says Mosimane.

"If we win the game, it gives us space little bit, a breather if you know what I am trying to say.”

Downs are now 16 matches unbeaten in the PSL, and despite dropping points against Arrows, Mosimane says his side have “won enough” game to not be too concerned at this point.

"The Aces game is very important - as long as they don’t get more points than us, it’s okay," he says.

"Because now you have to think differently; sometimes you want to win everything but you have to see who is behind you, are they getting maximum points? No. So sometimes you mustn't worry that you need win, we have won enough not to complain ... we have won enough, we have done very well.”

Kick-off at the Lucas Moripe Stadium against AmaZayoni is set for 19:30.

According to KickOff online Magazine, Mamelodi Sundowns’ home leg against Chicken Inn will be the only CAF game televised this weekend.

The Brazilians have struck a deal with SuperSport to broadcast their CAF Champions League home matches this season, reports Times Media Group.

Sundowns are 1-0 down after the first leg in Bulawayo and host the Zimbabwean team at Lucas Moripe Stadium on Saturday night at 20h15.

Meanwhile, Chiefs are reportedly trying to make something happen with SABC regarding their return leg against Volcan de Moroni.

The game is set to kick off at 19h30 at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday, but as things stand it will not be shown unless a deal can be struck before the weekend.

Ajax Cape Town and Bidvest Wits both have leads following their away legs in the CAF Confederation Cup. Neither club’s home match will be shown.

Wits play Lightstars at 18h00 and Ajax take on Sagrada Esperanca at 19h30, both on Saturday.

Egyptian boy, 4, 'convicted of murder

An Egyptian military court made a mistake by sentencing a four-year-old boy to life in prison for murder last week.

Spokesman Col Mohammed Samir said the court should have sentenced a 16-year-old with a similar name instead.

It not clear what will now happen to the four year old.

The child's lawyer said his name had been added to the list of suspects by mistake - and that court officials had not passed his birth certificate to the judge to prove his age at the time of the offence.

University of Free State suspends academic activities after violence on campus

The University of Free State on Monday announced that it was suspending academic activities.

An SMS sent to students read: "UFS Bfn Campus closed 23-24 Feb 2016 due to strike and protest. Safety of staff and students our priority."

Students had apparently gone on the rampage and vandalised two men's hostels. Unconfirmed allegations from insiders were that white students were being assaulted on campus.

This comes after a video, reportedly taken on campus on Monday afternoon, showed rugby players and supporters assaulting a group of protesters who had gone on to the field, disrupting the FNB Varsity Cup rugby match between the UFS Shimlas and the Madibaz.

Protesters have entered onto the rugby field during the Shimlas vs. NMMU Varsity Cup game.

Abdul Baba Rahman: Chelsea fans haven't seen the best of me yet

According to Standard Sports online, Abdul Baba Rahman has insisted Chelsea fans have not seen the best of his abilities yet, and admitted he is concentrating on cementing his place in Guus Hiddink's side for the final few months of the campaign following his display against Paris Saint-Germain.

The left-back impressed for the Blues in their Champions League last-16 first-leg tie away to PSG on Tuesday night following a first six months at Chelsea in which the Ghana international has had to accept playing second fiddle to Cesar Azpilicueta.

His appearance at the Parc des Princes came after Hiddink was forced to reshuffle his defence following the injuries to Kurt Zouma and John Terry, but Baba Rahman seized his opportunity with both hands after putting in a superb attacking display - providing the cross from which Diego Costa nearly scored from - while doing well to contain the likes of Angel Di Maria.

Despite his showing in Paris, the 21-year-old doesn't believe he was the man of the match in the clash but did state his intent to show supporters the club were not wrong in splashing out £17.7m to recruit him in the summer.

When asked whether supporters had witnessed the best he has to offer against PSG.

Baba Rahman was quoted on Chelsea's official website saying: "Well no, because I try to improve game after game and you want to try bit by bit."

"I am going to bring out a lot more,I wouldn’t say I was the man of the match." He added.

"I think the whole team performed very well and if you look at some of the players, they performed to their maximum. My thinking is the whole team defended well and played very well.

"It was the biggest game I have played in considering it was a Champions League game and this is my first time of playing in the knockout stages, and also playing up against a tough opponent. It was my biggest occasion.

"I felt like I did not have so much pressure on me because we have a good team and I was surrounded by good players so it was not something too difficult for me."

Eden Hazard finally finding form, says Chelsea boss Guus Hiddink

According to Skysports, Eden Hazard was singled out for praise by Chelsea interim boss Guus Hiddink after the Belgium playmaker finally scored his first Stamford Bridge goal of the season in Sunday's FA Cup defeat of Manchester City.

The 25-year-old was the recipient of individual awards for his stellar displays in Chelsea's Premier League and Capital One Cup successes last season.

But he has struggled for form this time around, including in last Tuesday's Champions League defeat at Paris Saint-Germain.

Hazard, who sent a text message apology to Jose Mourinho after the Portuguese was sacked in December, showed signs of his best against a much-changed City and scored Chelsea's fourth in the 5-1 win which set up a quarter-final with Everton. He also set up two goals.

It was Hazard's second goal of the season. Both have come in the FA Cup after his penalty in the fourth round at MK Dons on his first start following a groin injury in early January.

Guus Hiddink was quoted saying:

"Eden Hazard came back very strong. That's what I like very much," Hiddink told Chelsea TV. "He has had setbacks in recent period caused by injuries and it's not easy to come back.

"He trained well. Bit by bit he got more minutes in the games and it's rewarded now by his assists and goal. That's good.

"Everyone was focusing on him. Of course we protect him, but we also ask him what he can do - and he did [show what he can do]."

"It's hard to say, 'Hey, I want to rest you', then I get an eyebrow raised, 'I don't want to be rested'. And that's a very good sign," Hiddink added.

Hazard revealed on the eve of the PSG contest that it would be difficult to turn down a move to the Ligue 1 champions, while also reiterating his contract with Chelsea runs until 2020.

And Hiddink was forced to deny Hazard was agitating for a move away from Stamford Bridge.

The Belgian's place in Chelsea's starting XI against City might have been in doubt, but Hiddink named an unchanged line-up and Hazard justified his faith.

Orphans Using Art to Cope With Iraq's Chaos

Amidst the bombs and bloodshed of Baghdad, these orphans have found a haven.

Their days are filled with art, music and painting — a way to cope with the chaos around them through creativity.

"It is better for me to stay in this house instead of living on the street," 16-year-old Zain al-Abideen Abdulhadi told NBC News during a recent visit. "I have learned how to play music and paint."

Abdulhadi's house is the Iraqi Safe House for Creativity, a private, non-government funded orphanage. He lives there with 32 other boys and teens.
Abdulhadi came to the orphanage 10 years ago because his parents were no longer able to care for him.

He doesn't miss his family — "how am I going to miss someone who let me go?" — and has become an accomplished painter during his time at the orphanage.

"I live inside of it — I live in the colors I use," he said when asked to describe how art has changed his life.

Children have suffered as much as anyone in Iraq's war against ISIS.

More than 18,000 people were killed from January 2014 to October 2015 — half of them in Baghdad — and 3.5 million were forced to flee their homes, according to United Nations figures released last month.

Some 1.5 million of those displaced were children and the country has around 800,000 orphans, according to the latest figures from the U.N. children's agency UNICEF. Less than 50 percent of kids have access to education, with one-in-five schools destroyed.

One of Abdulhadi's paintings depicts a face with a closed mouth and cut-off ears. He said this represented Iraq's voiceless orphans and the "tyrannies" who will not listen to their plight.

Such bleak imagery is what prompted 46-year-old Hesham al-Dhahabi to found the Safe House in 2006, when the country was enduring a surge of sectarian violence after the U.S.-led invasion toppled Saddam Hussein.

"Humanity drove me to look after orphans… I decided to take these children on as my own responsibility," he told NBC News.

Al-Dhahabi said he has "created a special world" for the children, some of whom have suffered deep psychological trauma after seeing the deaths of their own parents.

Iraq's state-run orphanage system was rocked in 2007 when U.S. troops found two dozen severely malnourished boys lying naked in a room with no windows at an orphanage in Baghdad.

The government-run orphanages have since improved, but don't offer the same opportunities for artistic expression as the Safe House for Creativity.

Al-Dhahabi's believes the government is also too weighed down by bureaucracy and regulations to allow the children the sort of freedoms he permits.

In addition to art classes, his orphanage teaches the kids more practical tasks, such as barbering, tailoring and cooking — skills that may help them in a country with an 18 percent youth unemployment rate.

They take daytrips, such as picnics, despite Baghdad's risky security situation.

"We all go together to every place, so [if there is a bomb] we all face the same accident together," al-Dhahabi explained.

Central to his philosophy is treating all children the same, regardless of whether they are Sunni, Shiite, Christian, Kurdish, or one of the other religions that make up a diverse patchwork of faith in Iraq.

"We do not pay any attention to their sect," he said. "I deal equally with any child that needs my help."

One such child was 12-year-old Nayef Nawaf Hesham.

Al-Dhahabi found him living on the streets two years ago, scraping together a pittance selling chewing gum and sleeping where he could.

"He found me in the street, he brought me here, and started to give me programs in order to be a creative child," Hesham told NBC News. "I did not learn anything from the street — the only thing I saw in the street is how people humiliate me."

Seif Saleh Hesha, 14, was brought to the orphanage as a small child after his parents died. His time at the Safe House was chronicled in a 2011 documentary called "In My Mother's Arms," which played at the Toronto and San Francisco film festivals and earned critical acclaim.

That experience left a lasting impression on Hesha, who thrived in the Safe House's creative environment.

"I want to be a movie director," he told NBC News.

Despite the emphasis on positivity, the boys aren't immune to the violence around them.

Maher Mohammed Sa'ied is just 13 but says he wants to join the Iraqi army "to fight [ISIS], to kill them."

Sa'ied and his brother came to the orphanage last year because their parents were unable to look after them. While he misses his family he says he wants to "stay here for the rest of my life ... Mr. Hesham brings us whatever we want."

How long the orphanage's proprietor will be able to continue doing so is uncertain. Al-Dhahabi looks after the children on nothing more than private donations — a precarious existence.

He started to build a smaller house for the boys to move to once they reach the age of 18. But if donations were to falter, he faces having to move all 33 kids into that the building, which is half the size of their current accommodation.

"Still, it is better for the children to live inside a house than to let them live on the streets," he said.

Ronaldo: " Messi More Creative Than Cristiano."

According to punchng.com, Brazil legend Ronaldo has a slight preference for Lionel Messi over Cristiano Ronaldo due to the Barcelona star’s creativity.

Former Brazil star Ronaldo believes Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo are on another level, but feels the Barcelona forward holds the edge over his Real Madrid colleague due to his creativity.

Messi and Cristiano have shared eight Ballons d’Or among them over the past decade, with the Argentine lifting the trophy on five occasions against the Madrid man’s three wins.

Ronaldo is in awe of both, but he has a slight preference for Messi.

Brazilian Legend Ronaldo was quoted saying:

“Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo are both great players, they are well ahead of the rest,” the Brazil legend told Sky Sport Italia.

“But I would say that Messi is slightly more creative than Cristiano.

“The way he touches the ball, with his quick movement and changes of direction, it is not easy to do things like that with the ball at your feet.”

Messi has netted 27 goals in 30 appearances in all competitions for Barcelona in 2015/16.

Cristiano, meanwhile, has been even more clinical and has scored 33 in 31 games.

Huawei: We'll beat Apple, Samsung in smartphones

Huawei made a bold prediction on Sunday, saying it plans to surpass Apple (AAPL)as the second-biggest smartphone player in the world in three years and leapfrog Samsung by 2021, a top executive told CNBC on Sunday.

"We hope that in three years our market share can be top two and in five years our market share can be top one," Richard Yu, chief executive of Huawei's consumer business group, told CNBC in a TV interview at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.

"We have strong growth...continually in the last five years. So last year we ship out more than 100 million smartphones, definitely this year we will still have strong growth. So I believe our growth will be more than 30 percent (this year)," Yu said.

"Virtual reality changes people's lives. We already invest in that. We will launch our products in this year," Yu told CNBC.

Onyango Laments Downs' Missed Chances

According to Soccer Laduma online, Denis Onyango Says Mamelodi Sundowns Need To Score More Goals.

The 30-year-old has lamented the Chloorkop-based club’s goalless draw against Golden Arrows, saying that, despite their failure to score, they were able to create chances and that their opponent’s defending was excellent on the day.

Denis Onyango was quoted by the Siya Crew Of Soccer Laduma saying:

“We came here looking for a win but I think they defended well, We did our best and created chances but we didn't take our chances.”

“We want to win the league title and there are ten games to go. We need to score goals and win games for us to stand the chance of winning the title. It's good we didn't lose but we need to win games," Onyango concluded.

The Ugandan went added that his team’s performances in front of goal will be the difference between winning and losing this season’s league title.

Komphela Waits For Sundowns’ Hiccup

According to Soccer Laduma online, Steve Komphela Thinks Kaizer Chiefs Can Catch Mamelodi Sundowns.

Steve Komphela says that Kaizer Chiefs' title ambitions remain on track, with him stating that a ‘slight hiccup’ from Mamelodi Sundowns could derail them.

The Amakhosi made up some ground on the league leaders this weekend as they beat SuperSport United 2-1 and Masandawana drew 0-0 with Golden Arrows, moving to within eight points of Pitso Mosimane’s side.

Now, as they prepare to face Polokwane City this week, Komphela remains adamant that his team can still win the Absa Premiership title this season, starting with a win over Rise and Shine.

Steve Komphela was quoted on Kaizer chiefs website saying:

“We are looking forward to our fixture against Polokwane City. We are happy with the performance and satisfied that we have completed our mission in Cape Town with a win. We will look at their strengths and will make sure that we will be fully prepared.”

When asked about his side’s title chances after seeing Sundowns drop points, Komphela said, “Our title chase has never been put off. Anything can happen to log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns. We have been there before, ask Stuart Baxter - at some point we were leading with twelve points and Sundowns overtook us to clinch the title.

“The power to stay on top requires a lot of mental strength. A slight hiccup can derail anybody’s efforts.”

Chiefs now have 10 games, and a possible thirty points, to try and keep up their fine form and defend the league title that they won last season.

Marcelo: The draw feels like a defeat

According to FourFourTwo online, Real Madrid defender Marcelo believes Sunday's 1-1 draw against Malaga in La Liga felt more "like a defeat".

Zinedine Zidane's men lost ground on La Liga leaders Barcelona after a second-half equaliser from Malaga defender Raul Albentosa.

Cristiano Ronaldo had put Madrid into the lead on 33 minutes, but the Portugal international saw his spot-kick saved minutes later, which would have given the side a 2-0 advantage at the time.

And Marcelo thinks the draw felt more like a loss after they "had the game under control".

Marcelo was quoted saying;

"We have drawn today and that is like a defeat," he said. "Both home and away games are complicated, our rivals always give their best and it is difficult, but we have to move on.

"We knew it was going to be complicated. We have failed in several aspects, but we will keep fighting.

"We had the game under control. Now we have to analyse where we have failed and correct it.

"La Liga has always been complicated, and it is even more now," he said.

"It is obvious that we are below and they have a big advantage, but we have to keep trying.

"We are not giving up because there are many points still into play."

Madrid are now nine points behind Barcelona in the league standings, and Marcelo concedes the gap may prove insurmountable.

Eric Tinkler praise for Lehlohonolo Majoro

According to KickOff online magazine, Orlando Pirates coach Eric Tinkler says Lehlohonolo Majoro deserves a lot of credit for his role in their victory against Mpumalanga Black Aces yesterday.

The Buccaneers won 3-1 courtesy of a Tendai Ndoro brace, but Tinkler says had it not been for the defensive work put in by ‘Major’, it could have been a different story.

Eric Tinkler was quoted saying:

“Tendai came in and got a brace, but we must not overlook the job Majoro put in before that,” he said.

“Yes, he might not have had a shot on target, but you must judge his overall performance and I think defensively he did a lot of work for us.

“He did a lot of chasing and we put a lot of pressure on them to try and win the ball, and I'm very proud of the work he put in. That helped Tendai because when he came in very fresh, he found himself with a lot of space and it was a job done by Majoro.”

Tinkler was obviously happy with the result, though he didn’t feel it was the best performance they have produced.

“It was a very good result. A good performance – I don’t think it is the best performance we will ever produce – but I thought we were a lot more clinical in the final third and the players responded extremely well.”

Pirates’ next match is against Bloemfontein Celtic on Saturday at Orlando Stadium.
